A Giant Leap in Cinematography Education
Leverage knowledge & technology to up your cinematography skills.
This course is the pinnacle of my experience as a cinematographer and a content provider in the film industry.
From a decades worth of on set experience to nearly 300 episodes of the Wandering DP Podcast I have set out on a journey to develop a system for commercial cinematography. This course is the summation of that 10 year journey.
When I started developing this course I went through a number of variations before finally realizing that the best way to share the knowledge and experience I had benefited from in my own career was to lay it ALL out.
I wanted to create a course that showed exactly how I look at a job, the world, and the profession.
Open source the system so people that want to build on the information don't have to spend the years I did on constructing the foundation.
In Advanced Cinematography: Location Lighting, you and I will walk through an entire commercial production like a DP does in the real world.
The course is structured so that we analyze every aspect a cinematographer is responsible for and all along the way I share my style, areas I've learned to excel in, and what to expect from collaborators throughout the process.
This is the future of cinematography education.
I've been a cinematographer since 2009 and have shot 100s of commercial projects over that time.
Throughout the course of landing, prepping, and shooting those jobs I have learned a lot about the different approaches a DP can take in their role.
And over the past few years, I've shared that knowledge of how to shoot commercials in over 200 episodes of The Wandering DP Podcast. Every week I receive emails from people who have found the podcast and immediately improved their work because of it.
But in the process, I've also heard from many DPs and people just starting out in the industry that they need more than just technical help. They need guidance on the entire commercial production process and how the knowledge they have can be best utilized. They need a more complete road map of every phase of the process so they can maximize their efficiency and improve their results.
That is why I created Advanced Cinematography: Location Lighting, to fast track aspiring cinematographers by teaching them my workflows (both good and bad) for maximizing the potential of my projects.
This course will help show you what it is like to work in the modern commercial world. Things move very fast and you don't always get a second chance in this business.
I have always tried to share my methodology and the results of my experiments but something has always been missing. It just isn't possible to go into all the detail necessary to explain cinematography in a single podcast episode or youtube video.
With this course I wanted to leave no stone left unturned. Anything I do on a commercial is laid out in this course. You will understand the "Why" behind the choices which will give you a better understanding of the "How".
Make sure you are prepared and can show the world what you can do by gaining on set experience with a professional all at your own pace.
I won't beat around the bush.
Cinematography is not easy.
It is even harder if you don't surround yourself with experienced people who want to help you succeed. Take it from me as someone who spent years chasing down irrelevant techniques and workflows, there is a lot out there that doesn't work.
This course will show you how I operate on jobs each and every day. This is a system that I developed through trial and error and has been honed on set in the face of adversity. Each step of the way is outlined and fits into the overall picture for a very specific reason.
If you've seen the work before and if you have aligned with how I approach creating images then this course will take your personal knowledge to the next level and help fast track your own journey into the world of cinematography.
Advanced Cinematography: Location Lighting walks through my entire process of location work. It is my DP playbook and I am sharing it with you.
